Halloween Mask scares cat

Here is a funny video where some dude walks up to the door to scare the cat, and the cat goes hysterical. Very funny video.

Here is a funny video showing how some dogs react to halloween things.  My dog Tucker could probably relate to the one of the dogs trying to lose their costumes.  Even if you try to put a hat on him, he would just shrug it off.

Beanie Babies anyone?

Hey, do any of you like beanie babies (stuffed animals)?  I did a reset at Rite Aid in Monroe of a beanie baby display.  Check it out:
Here is a lovely assortment of beanie babies stuffed animals at Rite Aid at Monroe, WA just waiting to be sold to shoppers
You know this picture brings back memories to my childhood as I used to have an assortment of stuffed animals when I was younger.  I am scheduled to do a similar project at the Rite Aid in Snohomish on Monday.  The project was somewhat challenging as I had to remove discontinued items, rearrange some of the shelves and find space for some of the bigger stuffed animals. Sometimes they fall from the shelves too which I had to pick up and put back on the shelves.  I should get pictures of some of the stuffed animals I used to have.  Of course, now days I do have 2 dogs instead of stuffed animals.

Btw, if you are shopping for Beanie Babies online, you can actually buy some at Amazon.com.

Malamute puppies move the head to music

I like how the malamute puppies react to music.  Interestingly, they don't howl or sing like some huskies and malamutes do when listening to music.

Husky Puppy Tries to Wake up Other Puppies

Ah sibbling moments.  It is almost like how it is when kids wake up in the morning.  One wakes up and wants the others to wake up too sometimes.  The awake husky definitely seems restless in the video.

Our husky is TOO smart!!

Here is a funny video where a siberian husky literally helps himself to some ice from the fridge.  Pretty clever dog.  Though the owner should just be glad that he wasn't able to actually get into the fridge.

Huskies filmed by a 1st Grader!

Siberian huskies anyone?  Here is another video of Mishka and Laika filmed in the perspective of a first grader (though the voice behind the camera sounds more like an adult in my opinion).  I bet huskies make interesting family dogs, considering that both huskies and kids generally have lots of energy.  By the way, I like how they seem to go crazy for doggie treats (my dog Tucker does that too).

Puffer fish chases after laser pointer video

Here is another funny video I saw on Stupid Videos today.  I have seen videos of dogs and cats chasing after laser pointers, but in this video, we see a fish chasing after it.  Pretty funny to watch.  Interestingly, the other fish in the tank seemed to be holding back while the big one is chasing after a laser pointer.  By the way, I do not have a fish tank in my house, but my brother Justin does (he has a beta fish).

Girl scared of Manatee video on Stupidvideos

Here is a funny and yet interesting video I saw on Stupidvideos.  In this video (presumably somewhere in Florida), some lady goes out for a swim and sees a manatee swimming around and goes nuts.  Check it out:

Commentary about video

I thought this video was pretty funny and interesting to watch.  Just fyi I have only been to Florida twice.  Used to have a grandfather on my dad's side of the family that lived there (he passed away around 1993) that lived in the Venice area (near Tampa) and I remember going there twice (went to Disney World in Orlando both times too).  However, I don't recall seeing a manatee on either occasion (not sure if they exist in the Tampa area like they do near Miami), though I did encounter a bottlenosed dolphin once (have pictures of it).  I guess when you jump in ocean water, you never know what might be swimming around with you, be it a fish, shark, whale, manatee or whatever.  Luckily for her, it was just a manatee swimming around.

Cats and dogs wearing Halloween costumes - Funny and cute animal compila...

While it is not exactly October or Halloween (it is currently April and October is about 6 months away), here is an interesting and cute video showing dogs and cats in costumes.  By the way, I've tried using costumes for my dogs (such as hats), but they don't do very well with costumes (for example, Tucker will shrug it off).

Those pets definitely look cute in costumes.  I don't think my dogs would do well in costumes though.

GTA 5 Hunting With Cletus And Trevor Mission Walkthrough

Just out of curiousity, are there any hunters here?  How about some virtual hunting Grand Theft Auto 5 Style - with Trevor Philips and Cletus - check it out below (warning: this video may be offensive to some considering that Trevor is hunting animals in this mission)

While technically this video would pair better with my video game blog (see http://rjvideogamer.blogspot.com), here is a fun animal video related moment in the game worth talking about.  Have any of you here ever dreamed of taking up hunting or at least try hunting?  I have never hunted before, but I have fished on more than one occasion (at least when I was younger).  Anyways, in one of the many side missions you can do in GTA 5 (which opens up rather early on in the game not long after the "Mr Philips" and "Nervous Ron" missions), Trevor meets up with a guy named Cletus in a forest near Paleto Bay (at the north end of San Andreas) and take up hunting.  Note that after this mission, Trevor can take up hunting at any time (during daylight hours in the game) and earn money by hunting animals and sending pictures of his kills to Cletus (with some kills being worth more than others).  The hunting missions are rather simple. You are given these "mating call" whistles that Trevor can use, and whenever he uses them, red circles will appear on the map showing where you might be able to find animals (such as deer, elk, coyotes, boars, and even the occasional cougars) and shoot them.  Trevor can scare away animals (such as by getting too close or shooting and missing), so sniper rifles are your best choice for the missions, but he gets points for each successful kill.  Note that Trevor cannot kill female deer (or does), but can get points by getting pictures of them. These missions can be pretty fun to do sometimes and can be a good way to earn extra money in the game.  Only watch out for mountain lions (aka cougars) as they do tend to stalk Trevor during the hunting missions and will kill him if they get too close (usually, you should hear a growl if a cougar gets near).  By the way, if a cougar gets too close, activating Trevor's rampage mode ability can help him survive cougar attacks (which is usually fatal otherwise).

Japan's Cat Island - Incredible!

I thought I would share this video.  I remember reading an article a few days ago about an island in Japan where apparently there are cats everywhere and I thought that I would share a video about it.  I have never been to Japan, but that would definitely be both a cute and strange place to be.  I wonder if there are places like that here in America?

Husky puppy attempts to talk

Forget Mishka and Laika the husky.  This husky puppy below will blow both of them away (not literally of course).  Check it out:

This video was pretty funny.  I have seen "talking" huskies before (like Mishka the husky) where they say "I love you" or similar words, but this video takes talking huskies to a whole new level in my opinion.  I can't quite make out what the puppy is saying but it sounds a bit like "put me down" or "mama".  The lady holding the husky is laughing hysterically too.

Have any of you seen anything like this before?

Golden Retrievers Puppies playing, plus some pictures of Tucker as a puppy

Here is a cute video posted by Mrs Awww on youtube featuring a bunch of golden retriever puppies playing.

I bet all those the puppies are a handful for the owner.  I live with one golden retriever myself and he definitely has lots of energy, but it would defiitely be a challenge raising multiple ones.  By the way, I got both Tucker and Teddy (Tucker's predecessor, who passed away during the summer of 2007 due to old age) when they were both puppies.

Here are some pictures of Tucker as a puppy (taken back in 2007):

This was Tucker playing with his first chew toy (tennis ball shaped bone).  He definitely loves to chase after balls, especially lacrosse balls, footballs, and tennis balls.

Picture of Tucker sitting by his bed

Here is a picture of Tucker walking around the front yard of my house for the first time.

Note: I also have pictures of Teddy as a puppy, but they were taken long before we had a digital camera and they are in a photo album somewhere.  Will have to scan one with my scanner sometime and share them  that way.

RIP: Ryan Jones' Husky videos blog

It is official, I have finally decided to dissolve my other blog (Ryan's Husky videos blog) permanently (will basically be merging the 2 blogs together for now).

In its place, I will be creating a new photography themed blog, which you can check out at http://instantblogsubscribers.com/entry.php?w=rjphotoblog.  I figured the former blog was pretty similar to this blog (except it focused more on huskies and malamutes) and plus this blog offers more variety in videos.  Anyways, for now on all of my animal video related posts will be posted here.  My photography blog is still in its infant stage, but I will add some life to it over the next few months.

Man runs from relaxing tiger...funny stuff

Have you ever been suprised by an animal.  I remember one time when I was alot younger (back when I was living in Illinois), I went on a camping trip to Door County in Wisconsin and was startled when a raccoon tried to come into the back of the car while setting up camp.  Now, here is a video from Stupidvideos about a man who gets startled by a relaxing tiger.  Did the guy know the tiger was there?  I don't know.  The tiger didn't seem to be phased by the man either, even when he jumped.  Check it out:

Husky Puppy VS Malamute Puppy

Dog park fun anyone?  Here is one featuring a husky puppy and malamute puppy playing together.  I should probably take my dogs to a dog park again sometime, probably when it gets warmer out again.

Dog parks seem to be popular for husky and malamute owners.  Often see people with those kinds of dogs at various dog parks myself, especially during busier hours.

Doggie Movie Spotlight: Snow Dogs

Considering that it is in the middle of winter, one doggie related movie I like to watch sometimes is Snow Dogs.

What Snow Dogs is about:

It is a comedy style movie back in 2002 about a dentist, named Ted Brooks.  It starts out in Miami, Florida where Ted is a successful dentist following in his "father's" footsteps.  Unbeknownst to him is that he is actually adopted and his biological parents are from a small town called, Toketna, Alaska (probably named after Talkeetna, Alaska) and are basically dog sled racers.  Initially, he is a dentist, lives in an apartment in Miami, his "father" has passed away (though his mother is still around) and even seems to hate dogs (most notably the barking poodle next door), and was living an otherwise seemingly comfortable lifestyle.  One day in a major life changing event however, Ted's real mother, Lucy passes away (the movie is not clear on why and how she died or what her story was) and he gets summoned to Alaska to collect on the will Lucy left for him, which turns out to be her cabin in the woods, along with all of her dogs, namely a border collie and 7 rowdy siberian huskies, including one unusually aggressive one, named Demon.  Upon arriving in Alaska, Ted's real adventure begins and faces all kinds of challenges and adversity as he adjusts to the new Alaskan lifestyle, including the very cold winter, a cranky and jealous old man named Thunder Jack (who unbeknownst to Ted is actually his father, James Johnson), unruly siberian huskies (especially demon) to tame, along a Saloon lady (Barb) who soons starts crushing on Ted after arriving in Tolketna.  He also must learn to leave his old lifestyle behind and take on dog sled racing.  I won't say more about the story as I don't want to spoil it for you.

Primary characters in the movie (for the full list of characters, you can read about them at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0281373/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast):
- Ted Brooks.  He is an African American dentist from Miami, Florida and is the primary protaganist in the movie. After going to Alaska, his life is radically changed and he learns how to become a dog musher.
- Amelia.  She is Ted's adoptive mother from Miami.  She always likes to check in on Ted, especially after going to Alaska.  Unbeknownst to Ted, Amelia was Ted's adoptive mother and his real mother was from Alaska and was deceased.
- Lucy.  She was Ted's biological mother and for unknown reasons, was deceased sometime before the events of Snow Dogs.
- Thunder Jack (aka James Johnson).  Initially he was the antagonist in the movie, being a cranky old mountain man that becomes jealous of Ted after he arrives in Alaska and inherits Lucy's dogs.  Why Lucy didn't give Thunder Jack the huskies (especially Demon), I have no idea, but Ted has them and Thunder Jack wants them (especially Demon) so that he can use them in the upcoming Arctic Challenge sled dog race.  Eventually it is revealed that he is really Ted's father and gradually warms up to Ted and becomes less antagonistic towards him, though he is always willing to buy Ted's dogs off of him.
- Rupert.  Ted's best friend and coworker in Miami.
- Barb.  She is a somewhat firey bar waitress (possibly bar owner) at a saloon in Tolketna and basically becomes Ted's love interest upon arriving in Tolketna.

Noteworthy dogs:
- Nana.  She is a border collie and develops a bond with Ted after he arrives at Lucy's cabin.
- Demon.  He is a siberian husky that has an unusually aggressive personality, especially around Ted.  He has one weakness though: it appears if he can be tamed if you "bite him in the ear".  He seems to be the alpha dog in the husky pack that Ted inherits.
- Other siberian huskies.  In addition to Demon, there are 6 other siberian huskies that Ted inherits too.  I won't get into the details of all of them though.  One husky appears to be a female husky by the way, though most of them appear to be male.  Initially they are aggressive at first around Ted, but they warm up to Ted alot sooner than Demon does.
- Poodle.  This was the yapping dog next door to Ted while he is in Miami.

Things I liked about Snow Dogs:

- Can be a good winter themed movie to watch featuring dogs
- Who doesn't like siberian huskies?  Let alone 7 of them
- It is a comedy adventure

Things I did not like about the movie:
- Can be a little cheesy and childish at times.
- There do seem to be some plot holes in the movie.  For example, what was the full story behind Lucy and Thunder Jack?
- The movie is not really filmed in Alaska.  Instead it was filmed in Alberta, Canada.  Going to the real Alaska would have been nice.  Though Canadian rockies in Alberta does have a northern style feel and can feel like you are in Alaska, especially during the winter.

Tidbits for thought (contains spoilers)

1. Did you know that much of the movie was filmed in Canmore Alberta?  Probably explains the scene later in the movie where Amelia arrives on the scene in "Alaska" and the taxi driver seems to want Canadian money (probably bad acting skills on his part).  Though Alberta and British Columbia are not too far away from Alaska (you could probably get there pretty quickly from Calgary or Vancouver via airplane).  You can also drive to Alaska from Canada, but it is definitely a multiday trip considering that Alberta and British Columbia are huge.  Of course, Alberta is much closer to Alaska than Mia

2. Siberian huskies as aggressive dogs!?  In the movie, when Ted first meets his new dogs, while Nana is generally friendly around Ted, the siberian huskies try to attack him (though they are not first introduced until Ted opens up a food cabinet that a husky was hiding in).  Then you also have Demon that is even more aggressive around Ted.  He doesn't hesitate to snarl at Ted, chase him up a tree or even snap at Ted at times.  While the other huskies warm up to Ted early on, it is not till towards the end of the movie when Demon finally warms up to Ted.  In my experience with Siberian huskies, the vast majority of the ones I have seen are rather friendly around people (even total strangers) and are not aggressive.  Here is a video on youtube that illustrates this point:

(more tidbits will be added later)

Dog show fun at the Evergreen State Fair 2013

Do you like dogs?  At the Evergreen State fair (which usally runs late August to Labor Day), in addition to the usual animal exhibits (cows, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, chickens, rabbits, and waterfowl), they also have a dog show section where people can show off their dogs and compete for prizes (not sure really how it works since I have never signed up my dogs for a dog show).  Here is a short collection of videos I took at the fair.  Multiple dog breeds, including golden retrievers, black labs, yellow labs, samoyed, collies, australian shepards, corgis, a bernese mountain dogs, siberian husky, and even small dogs.

Post by Ryan Jones.

I went to the fair again back in 2014, but the dog show seemed to be a bit more subdued when I was there, so I didn't get any pictures or videos, plus I was on a timeframe too.  I also went to the Puyallup fair in 2014 but they didn't have a dog show when I was there, instead they had more of a cat show instead.

By the way, I secretly want to go to a more formal dog show sometime this year given the opportunity, that would be fun.

Tortoise Wins by a Hare Clip

Here is a funny version of the Tortoise and the Hare, Bugs Bunny style.  You know what is funny about this one: Bugs dresses up like the tortoise and his "friends" think he is the tortoise and try to sabotage his race.  Now that is what I call, poetic justice.

Cats jumping on the counter

Here is a funny video I saw on Stupidvideos about cats jumping on a counter only to have quite a suprise.  I don't own cats myself, but they can definitely be curious and michievious creatures sometimes.  Even funny to watch too

What was your favorite animal Superbowl 2015 commercial

Well, another Superbowl has come and gone.  I was rooting for the Seahawks (I live in the Seattle area after all) but sadly they were defeated by the Patriots.  Anyways, there were many different super bowl ads commercials and I thought I would share some of the animal related ones and see which ones were your all favorites.  Note: I don't own any of the videos below, but I thought I would share some of them with you.

1.  Mercedes-Benz Fable Comercial (basically the Tortisse and the Hare)

This was a funny commercial.  It revisits the old tale of the Tortoise and the Hare (turtle and rabbit) competing in a race where despite the rabbit's speed, the turtle manages to defeat the rabbit.  In this 3D animated version, the tortoise is losing at first, but then stumbles across a Mercedes and lo and behold, he manages to catch up to the rabbit and win.  Liked the other animals in the commercial too. Technically the tortoise cheated in the race (considering that he was using a car), but that was probably more to show off he new cars Mercedes-Benz has.  By the way, the Looney Tunes has done at least similar Tortoise and the Hare story, where Bugs Bunny races a Tortoise and the tortoise manages to come out on top.

2. Budwiser "Lost Dog" Commercial

Although this commercial is not quite about beer, it features a laborador retriever puppy from some horse ranch that accidently get lost after venturing into the back of a truck (much like how it is in Snow Buddies when the golden retriever puppies accidently end up in Alaska after getting trapped the back of an ice cream truck) and ends up going on a "Home ward bound" style journey back to his farm, while braving the elements, hungry wolves, and even befriending some horses to help him on the way back to the farm.  By the way, this is the happy version of events.  Apparently there was a banned commercial, where another dogs gets lost, returns home only to find out that he was sold on a website.

Here is the other version (from Youtube):

GoDaddy’s Super Bowl XLIX 2015 Commercial Mocks Budweiser’s Lost Puppy Dog Sentimental Ad

I have to admit that I feel sorry for the puppy.  I have a golden retriever myself and I would be happy to take the puppy off his owner's hands if he didn't want the pup.

More videos will be shared over time.

Other commercials worth mentioning includes:

- Ted 2 (yes, another Ted movie is in the works),
- The video where a bunch of golden retrievers are driving and barking at the mailman (was also on last year)
- Commercial featuring kittens and others.

Which commercials were your favorite?  Least favorite?  Feel free to share your thoughts.

Meet the Pups for Puppy Bowl XI

You know, besides the Superbowl coming up tomorrow, the annual Puppy Bowl on animal planet is almost here too, though sadly it will air around the same time as the Superbowl so I probably won't be able to watch the whole thing, but here is the starting lineup for the dogs for this year:

There are quite a bit of puppies playing this year.  In case if you do not know, the Puppy Bowl is an annual event on Animal Planet inspired by the NFL featuring many different puppies having some fun on a football style arena along with a referee supervising them.  It appears many of them are adoptable though I am not sure how the adoptions work.  There is also usually a halftime show showing kittens playing too.  I am sure my dogs would love to be in the Puppy bowl if they could (especially Tucker who has alot of energy) though obviously they are too old to join the games.  By the way, which dogs are your favorites one the list.  You can get more information about Puppy Bowl at http://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/puppy-bowl/.

By the way, Animal Planet does have a puppy web camera where you can check out the puppies at any time at: http://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/puppy-bowl/games-and-more/puppy-cam/

2015 Super Bowl Ads!!

Who is pumped for the superbowl tomorrow?  Patriots vs Seahawks.  Let the best team win.  Anyways, here is a commentary video I liked about some of the commercials that are going to be playing tomorrow for the superbowl.  There are some animal related videos too, such as the one with the laborador puppy and horses, sponge bob movie, and a few others.  Other noteworthy commercials includes one from T-mobile featuring Kim Kardashian, a trailer for Ted 2 (yes, apparently there is a sequel in the works for Ted), and even one featuring this dude in this virtual pac man arena.  Check it out

What do you think of the commercials?  Which ones were your favorite.  By the way, I am from the Seattle area, so naturally I will be rooting for the Seahawks.  On a side note, I might consider going to the victory parade this year should they win against the Patriots.

DOG SCARED OF REFLECTION Animals vs Mirrors | Snow Dog Short 37

Here is a funny video of a siberian husky named, Memphis, who sees a reflection of himself in a glass by the TV and starts growling and barking at "himself".  Pretty funny video.  By the way, I have tried similar tricks with my dogs (such as showing them mirrors), but they don't really to anything.  Though some animals can do pretty strange things around mirrors. I should do a post sometime talking about that.

Raccoons Are Awesome: Compilation

Taylor Swift's Gift Giving of 2014

Here is a touching video of Taylor Swift giving gifts to some of her fans, check it out.

While this video is not quite animal related, I felt like sharing this video about Taylor Swift, by the way, there are cats in it (looks like she has cats at her place and you can definitely see them in the video, at least early on).  It is one thing to buy gifts for friends and family, but to buy gifts for people you don't know, that is quite another.  If I had more money, I'd probably do the same.  In fact, at my church (Snohomish Community Gifts), they do host gift drives (also known as the Advent Conspiracy events) where you can donate gifts to the church that are distributed to families and children all over the globe.  I also helped with the Northwest Harvest event back in December via Kohl's cares, and they too collect donations to give to people all over the world.  I can't say I have ever gotten gifts from celebrities myself (not that I should expect them), though obviously I don't know any of them personally (though I did meet Jamie Moyer from the Seattle Mariners once as I had to do a demo at one of the QFC's in the university district of Seattle and I was helping with a calendar signing event he was hosting).

How about you.  Have you gotten any gifts from Taylor Swift or other celebrities?  It has got to be an extraordinary experience for those who actually met her.

Video and Article source: http://www.mtv.com/news/2038323/taylor-swift-gift-giving-video/ (though the video can also be viewed on Youtube).
